Numeracy
The
D.F.E.S.'s national numeracy strategy has given an additional
framework to the teaching of mathematics.
Children
spend five hours a week engaged in various mathematical
activities. These may be formal teaching of basic method, mental
arithmetic, tables activities, textbook work, investigative and
practical mathematics. We also try to incorporate more
imaginative methods of teaching mathematics through games and
real life situations. Older children are tested in tables,
mental arithmetic and assessment papers on a regular basis to
aid the teachers ongoing assessment of the child's progress.
