Admissions
Policy
Children
are admitted to school the September following their 4th
birthday.
The
standard number of pupils is 30 per class - 60 per year group.
It may not be possible to meet all parental preferences and, if
necessary, the governors will apply the following criteria in
priority order when deciding which pupils to admit:
1)
Children who have permanent residence in the schools
catchment area as defined by the authority
2) Siblings of children who currently attend the school.
3) Compelling social or domestic reasons why the child must come
to Upton Heath School and not any other (each case judged on its
merits).
4)
Nearness of the child's home and ease of access to the school.
All
admissions are determined by the Governors and administered by
the Head Teacher.
You
are very welcome to visit the school at any time. Please make an
appointment with the school Secretary.
Admissions
for Reception Children
Great
care is taken with the induction of these young children into
school. A structured program of admission over the first four
weeks exists. This ranges from half days to full time, slowly
building their confidence and introducing them into school life.
During
the first few weeks of their time in school the children will be
involved in a wide range of activities. This will allow the
teacher time to get to know the children and allow the children
to familiarise themselves with the teachers.
The
information gained over this period is shared with parents and
recorded on an individual pupil profile early in the first term.
The reception children follow targets outlined in the Early
Learning Goals throughout the Foundation Stage (age 3 to the end
of Reception).
